Si eres oyente habitual de Oniria Radio (¡gracias!), probablemente ya conoces cuál es nuestra Pista Roja de esta semana, hasta el próximo domingo 19 incluido. Lo que quizá no conozcas es quién la firma. No te preocupes: es totalmente normal, ya que se trata de una de las nuevas revelaciones a nivel mundial que se ha dado a conocer gracias a las redes sociales y, en particular, a TikTok. Hablamos de Lola Young.
La autora de la canción Messy, que ya suena en el mundo entero y acaricia los puestos más importantes en listas de incontables países, llega desde el sur de Londres, donde nació hace justo 24 años. Eso sí, en su tierra no era precisamente una desconocida, aunque la fama a nivel mundial le haya llegado ahora.
Y es que lleva ya unos cuantos años intentando hacerse hueco en la difícil industria de la música con todo tipo de proyectos, que le valieron una nominación a los Premios BRIT de 2022 a mejor estrella emergente (Rising Star) y la cuarta posición en el prestigioso BBC Sound Of, que recopila cada mes de enero los artistas que van a ser grandes revelaciones en el Reino Unido durante el año en curso.
Con tan solo 15 años, una joven Lola ganaba la competición Open Mic UK, en la que llevaba ya participando desde ediciones anteriores sin mucha suerte. Esto le abrió definitivamente las puertas a tener una carrera musical, aunque no sería hasta 2019 cuando publicó su primer sencillo 6 Feet Under. Desde entonces, no ha parado de lanzar música: ya tiene dos discos publicados (My Mind Wanders and Sometimes Leaves Completely, en 2023; y This Wasn't Meant for You Anyway, el pasado mes de junio), así como otros dos EP (Renaissance, 2020; y After Midnight, 2021).

Pero ninguno de esos proyectos ha conseguido la relevancia internacional que Lola Young ha logrado con su canción Messy. Publicada en mayo de 2024 como parte de su más reciente álbum, la composición narra, con un elegante toque soul, la propia historia de la británica con los trastornos mentales que padece, y, en particular, con el TDAH (trastorno por déficit de atención e hiperactividad) y cómo le afecta en el terreno más personal.
"Habla de cómo me siento conmigo misma en general: siendo demasiado desordenada un día y demasiado limpia otro, luchando por encontrar ese equilibrio en mí misma", contaba la artista hace unos meses en una entrevista con el medio Metal Magazine. Lo que Lola no esperaba con toda probabilidad es que ese "himno al TDAH" se convirtiera tiempo después en uno de los temas más escuchados a nivel mundial, aupado por el poder de las redes.
Era en los últimos coletazos de 2024 cuando Messy comenzaba a ganar posiciones en listas de éxitos, al mismo tiempo que se multiplicaban los vídeos de TikTok que usaban la canción. Ahora, recién empezado 2025, el tema de Lola Young puede presumir de haber alcanzado el número 3 en el UK Singles Chart, además de colarse en puestos de cabeza en el Billboard Hot 100 estadounidense e, incluso, aparecer en la lista oficial española, siempre tan complicada para canciones anglosajonas.
Sin duda, estamos ante el primer gran fenómeno musical del año en todo el mundo, un éxito que en Oniria Radio no podíamos ignorar y por ello es la Pista Roja de esta semana, sonando puntual cada 2 horas en nuestra programación. ¡Esperamos escuchar mucho más de ella en los próximos meses!
